Jaclyn is a 24 year old native of the small historic town of Amherstburg, Ontario. She graduated with distinction from the Bachelor of Education program at the University of Western Ontario and holds an honours BA in French and Family Studies from the University of Windsor.
Jaclyn is the current titleholder of Miss Canada 2012. She is the spokesperson for the Break the Silence Campaign as well as for the Canadian Centre for Abuse Awareness. Being a survivor of multiple forms of abuse, Jaclyn has become extremely passionate about putting an end to violence in Canada. Her international campaign (Break the Silence) focuses on the prevention of abuse as well as support for victims. With Jaclyn’s experience and education in this field, she is able to engage all ages in her message and challenge issues in our society surrounding abuse. By sharing her personal story of survival she has become a role model for people of all ages and a symbol of hope for those struggling with abuse.
So far this year, Jaclyn was named one of London, Ontario's community heroes by Community Living London. She was also nominated twice for the Governor General's Award in Commemoration of the Persons Case for her work on gender equality and domestic violence.
Jaclyn has had the opportunity to travel to several provinces this year to speak out against multiple forms of abuse such as bullying, sexual assault and domestic violence. She was even granted the experience of traveling internationally to Guyana to speak about awareness programs and prevention of domestic violence. Jaclyn hopes to be able to visit as many provinces as possible before the end of her reign in February of 2013.
